The Norwegian Foster Care Association is an independent organisation that represents the interests of foster carers, which is not connected with any political parties or religious beliefs. The association’s aim is to raise the quality in all steps of foster caring procedures, and actively to try to better foster care work in Norway.
In the end of 2005 the association had about 3000 family-members (foster carers), and support members. Anyone who is or has been a foster carer can become a member of NFF. Others with an interest in or enthusiasm for foster care can become supporting members.
In 1987 the association got its own secretariat, and today has three and a half permanent positions. NFF is the only association for foster carers in Norway.
NFF has a local association in each of the 19 counties.
NFF publishes the periodical “Fosterhjemskontakt” six times a year. The periodical has circulation of 4500 copies, members of the association and the social service working with foster care.
The secretariat operates a telephone advisory service to the members, prepares information brochures on various topics, organize coursers, seminars and conference, both for foster carers and people working with foster care.
Each second year the association has its national congress where the president and board members are elected, and the activity plan for the next two years is decided.
